How To Make The Buttercream Icing

Buttercream icing unlike the royal icing is used to ice the cake
and is good for most of your decorations.
It is pretty much a butter or sugar frosting.
You would want to ice the cake with buttercream
as it remains soft and won't dry hard

You will need:

Extra equipment:

large bowl
icing syringe
a mixer
wooden spoon (optional)

Ingredients:

75 g (3 oz) butter
150 g (6 oz) icing sugar
1-2 tbsp milk
food colouring (optional)

Tips:

use blue, yellow and red colourant to create custom colours icing.
to soften the butter, take it out of the fridge at least 30 minutes
before cooking.

To make:

1. Use a wooden spoon or a mixer to beat the butter in large bowl until it is soft.

2. Sift half of the icing sugar into the bowl, and then beat it with the butter until
the mixture is smooth.

3. Sift the rest of the icing sugar into the bowl and add one tablespoon of milk.
Beat the mixture until it is smooth and creamy.

4. If the mixture is too thick, add a little extra milk to make it more runny. Add
extra icing sugar if you need to thicken the mixture.

5. Add a couple of drops of food colouring if you want to.

6. Spread it onto your cake and voila!
